Bismack Biyombo Agrees to $1.5M Buyout; Free to Join Bobcats

December 19, 2011

Forward Bismack Biyombo is set to join the Charlotte Bobcats after agreeing to pay a buyout clause to be released from his contract with his Spanish team, NBA.com reports.

Biyombo initially sought to avoid paying the $1.5 million buyout fee, but his civil suit against Fuenlabrada was dismissed last week. Biyombo had two years remaining on his contract with the Spanish team.

Biyombo has been doing individual drills in Charlotte with the Bobcats organization since the NBA lockout ended, but was not allowed to formally practice with the team while the dispute was ongoing.

The 6’9 19-year-old Congo native was drafted seventh overall in this year’s NBA draft. Despite being raw, the athletic and physically gifted talent is expected to be a major contributor in the Bobcats’ front court rotation that was one of the league’s worst in 2010-11.

Along with the Bobcats’ number nine pick, guard Kemba Walker, the team has high expectations for its young talent.
