Brotha Fred’s Charlotte Radio Run Ends; Ace & TJ Returns

December 18, 2011

After more than 5 years on the Charlotte airwaves, Brotha Fred’s morning radio show has ended on Channel 96.1, being replaced by the Ace & TJ show.

Brotha Fred, real name Christopher Frederick, told fans on Facebook: “I am beyond appreciative for the opportunity to host this show in Chicago and thank Charlotte for over five years of loyalty!”

Frederick’s show started in Charlotte as Brotha Fred’s AM Mayhem in 2006 and moved its base to Chicago last year (Brotha Fred’s Neighborhood 103.5 KISS FM), where it began syndication. It will continue to be heard in Chicago and in other cities where it is syndicated by Clear Channel.

The change allows for the return of the Ace & TJ show to their home market. Ace & TJ, whose 13-year run at WNKS-FM (“Kiss” 95.1) ended abruptly six months ago, are headed back to Charlotte morning radio. They reached an agreement Friday afternoon with Clear Channel Radio’s Charlotte group to join WHQC-FM (“Channel 961,” 96.1) beginning January 9th.

It will be essentially the same show they did during their years at “Kiss.” Since leaving the CBS Radio station in May after they could not agree on a new contract, Ace & T.J. have continued to do their show, which is syndicated to 14 other cities, from the Clear Channel studios off Billy Graham Parkway each weekday.

Their six month non-compete clause ended last month, clearing the way for their return to Charlotte radio.
