Charlotte Airport Ranked 6th Busiest In The World

April 4, 2012

Airports Council International (ACI) has released a report that shows Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the sixth busiest airport in the world.

The 2011 preliminary rankings were recently released and the final report will be published later this spring.

The latest figures move Charlotte up from 2010 numbers, which placed the Airport seventh worldwide and nationwide in aircraft movements. Last year, Charlotte experienced the largest passenger traffic in Airport history, welcoming more than 39.04 million visitors.

According to the report, Charlotte Douglas remains the 11th busiest airport in the country in terms of passengers and 25th busiest in the world.

Worldwide, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport remained the busiest, followed by Chicago’s O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver International and Los Angeles International airports.

Airport officials said much of the growth was due to added flights from the carriers flying to and from Charlotte. US Airways operates about 600 of the airport’s 670 or so daily flights.
