Charlotte Area Gas Prices Continue To Fall; Lowest In Nearly 5 Years

Thursday, December 11, 2014
Gas prices in Charlotte and nationwide continue to plunge, reaching the lowest levels seen in nearly five years.
A spokesperson with AAA of the Carolinas said average prices are falling an average of five to seven cents a week in recent weeks.
On Wednesday, for the first time in years, Charlotte gas prices dipped under $2.50 a gallon for regular.
Those at AAA said an abundant supply domestically and less demand during the winter months is causing a perfect storm for falling gas prices.
“Right now we are paying 63 cents less than we were a year ago, and I think that’s impressive, and when you start talking about numbers that big, that definitely puts more money in our wallets, gives us more time to do some holiday shopping if you will,” said Tiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas.
The average gas prices in Charlotte on Wednesday was $2.58 a gallon for regular unleaded.
