2012 Cinco de Mayo Celebrations taking place in and around Charlotte.

Every year on the 5th of May, Americans come together to celebrate Mexican culture, heritage and cuisine on a day that commemorates the 1862 victory of Mexico over the French. Whether it is a night of authentic Mexican cuisine and drinks, a bar crawl or a festival, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo right here in the Charlotte area.

Saturday, May 5th

Cinco de Mayo Salsa-thon
Salsa-Thon is Charlotte’s Cinco de Mayo festival celebrating Caribbean culture highlighting salsa dancing and salsa music. Dance exhibitions will take place throughout the day, as well as live musical performances, sponsor displays with products to sample, authentic Latin food and arts and crafts by local artists. The inaugural celebration will kick off at 12:00pm with a variety of entertainment for the entire family. Admission is FREE and the fun will continue until 6:00pm.

The 5th Annual Cinco de Mayo Fanta Festival will be held on Sunday, May 6th, 2012, 11am to 7pm, at McAlpine Park, 8711 Monroe Road. This popular festival features internationally known regional Mexican musical acts, celebrity appearances, children’s games and activities, and folkloric dance performances. An open-air food court offers authentic Latin American cuisine and the mercado sells hand-made, imported goods and specialty products.
