2013 Q-City Charlotte BBQ Championship & Festival – Oct 18th & 19th

Join us in Uptown Charlotte for the 11th Annual Q-City Charlotte BBQ Championship and festival taking place October 18 & 19. There will be two days of beer drinking, pork eating and shaking your pig tail to the rockin’ sounds of Vintage Trouble, Tinsley Ellis, Jonathan Tyler and The Soul Rebels.

Professional and Challenger teams will fire up the grills and submit their best entries for the judges to choose their favorites!

Pro teams will compete for a chance to win up to $35,000 in prize money and a spot to represent the Southeast and the Q-City at the Memphis in May Championship in 2014. Our local Challenger teams will be smoking and grilling throughout the weekend for cash prizes.

Proclaimed by our Governor as the State of North Carolina’s Official Memphis BBQ Network Championship Cook-Off!

EVENT SCHEDULE

Friday, October 18

Lighting of the Grill
We will kick off the Q-City Charlotte Championship at 11:00 am on the Budweiser Main Stage with the annual Lighting of the Grill. Let the games begin!

Budweiser Main Stage
Our Main Stage at Trade & Tryon Streets comes alive at 11:00 am with the Lighting of the Grills. Stick around for Tinsley Ellis at 7:30 and finish the night out with The Soul Rebels at 9:30.

‘Cue Culture Marketplace
Take a stroll down Tryon Street and peruse all that is ‘Cue Culture. We will have everything from sauces and rubs to grillin’ tools and outdoor furniture.

Team Submissions
The competition gets goin’ with the ‘Anything But’ submission. The competing teams cook “anything but” pork. Our judges could taste entries ranging from shrimp and chicken to alligator and camel!

Tasty Food Tours
Feast Food Tours and local historian, Tom Hanchett, will be your guides on culinary excursions ranging from delectable ‘Que to our local Charlotte breweries. Tickets must be purchased in advance from Feast Food Tours.

After Hours ‘Que Ball
INVITATION ONLY. Hop over to the EPICENTRE Entertainment Complex at 10:00 pm for a night of tunes and ‘tails as we celebrate a successful Q-City Friday.

Saturday, October 19

Best Booth Contest
The theme for our booth competition this year is, “I’m Hot for Blaze!” in recognition of our new mascot, Blaze. Click here to download an image. We encourage decorations that illustrate Blaze’s attitude – a little bit rock ‘n roll, with some street cred, a leather jacket and a fiery outlook on life. He is the angry step-brother of Hamilton Detailed rules can be found here.

Official Q-City Championship Submissions
Our teams face off in the final round of Q-City judging. Categories include Boston Butt, Pork Ribs and Whole Hog. There can only be one Grand Champion to take home the coveted Governor’s Cup custom trophy. Watch us crown the winner on 6:30 on the Budweiser Main Stage.

Budweiser Main Stage
The tunes will crank back up at Noon with the Charlotte Blues Society Band Competition. The winner will go on the compete at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights hit the stage at 7:30 pm. Be sure to stick around for the live-wired, straight-shootin’ dirty-mouth’d, pelvis-pushin’ juke music by Vintage Trouble at 9:30.

Carolina Brew Challenge @ The EPICENTRE
The EPICENTRE Entertainment Complex will showcase over 30 NC Breweries for this People’s Choice brew-off from Noon to 5:00 pm. The Champion will be announced on the Main Stage at 6:30 pm.Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in advance at EPICENTRENC.com

Crowning the Grand Champion
The Official Q-City Charlotte Championship Awards Ceremony begins at 6:30 pm on the Budweiser Main Stage. See who gets the ultimate braggin’ rights for their ‘Cue and the brew winner from the Carolina Brew Challenge at the EPICENTRE. We will award more than $30,000 in cash and prizes, with the Grand Champion taking home a woppin’ $7,500!
