“Improbable Arts”: Music meets Dance, meets Art

Guitarist/Composer Michael DeLalla & Dancer/Choreographer Rachel Lee Davis bring innovative workshop and performanceto Fort Mill

Fort Mill-based dancer/choreographer and guitarist/composer Michael DeLalla will present Improbable Arts, a collaborative arts workshop and performance at LOOM Co-working, Gallery and Event Space, 120 Academy St, Fort Mill, SC on Saturday July 1. The workshop will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 4:00 with a break for lunch. There will be a performance at 7:30 PM featuring the workshop participants. In addition, DeLalla and Davis will feature a new collaboration created especially for this event.

Davis and DeLalla have crafted their highly participatory workshop to be an exploration of how artists from different disciplines approach their respective creative process, and how those disciplines can come together to make new art by learning from and drawing inspiration from each other.

Rachel Lee Davis has been creating dances and teaching dance for nearly 14 years. Never one to settle in a box, her choreography is a blend of multi-cultural styles with contemporary ballet, improvisation and modern technique. Her work is informed by her worldview and extensive travels; following a tour in Europe and Morocco in 2008, she returned with a keen awareness of the power and beauty of dance to break social and cultural barriers. She has been active in the Charlotte arts scene, helping to found the local non-profit ArtsCharlotte, and her recently launched FRAME project, which seeks to create, articulate, and preserve culture through the performing arts.

Boulder CO guitarist/composer Michael DeLalla has been a nationally acclaimed performing artist, teacher and clinician for more than 30 years. His solo guitar compositions and arrangements are informed by both his classical training and his love of musical traditions found around the globe. His fluency on classical, 12-string, and steel-string acoustic guitar showcases gifted improvisation and dazzling technical facility that never sacrifices the richness and poignancy of his compositions. A prominent theme in both his concerts and his workshops is his desire to explore and celebrate musical principles that transcend style and genre.

With “Improbable Arts”, Rachel Lee Davis and Michael DeLalla partner in presenting how two artists from different disciplines can find places to meet, share and create. They are excited to bring this project to the Charlotte, NC and York County, SC community.
