Many of us can struggle with confidence in the workplace. Whether it is a fear of public speaking, anxieties about being wrong, or simply an issue socializing with our fellow co-workers…maintaining a happy confident self is no easy task in today’s world. Improvisation is a wonderful tool that can help all of us on our journey to higher confidence. Improvisation teaches us that there are no mistakes, only opportunities. This type of thinking takes the concept of being “right” all of the time out of the equation. Since heightened listening and saying “yes,” are the main tenants of improvisation, each student of improv will grow as a collaborator. Many corporations throughout the world use improvisation as a tool to cultivate their employees’ full potential. Now is the time to follow your fears and take a step in a direction towards a happier life.

Through this Level One Improv Class, you will be able to focus on these important lessons of improvisation while having fun every single week. Your instructor, Kevin Shimko, is a 13-year improv veteran who got his start here in Charlotte, North Carolina with The Charlotte Comedy Theater. Kevin has studied, performed, and taught improv in New York City. He currently teaches and performs here in Charlotte with many different teams such as Now Are the Foxes, Improv Vikings, and Improv Charlotte and at many venues like Upstage in NoDa, The Warehouse PAC in Cornelius, and The Charlotte Comedy Theater. His energy and enthusiasm for the art form is contagious and it is his primary goal to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and encouraged. As one former student of Kevin’s states, “Improv can be intimidating. Yet Kevin’s warm and welcoming coaching style, coupled with his natural exuberant humor, put his students at ease while he guides them into this delightfully challenging form of fun. As Kevin believes that anyone can succeed in improv, he is exceptionally generous with supportive and encouraging feedback.”
