Description

Each year the Mecklenburg County Women’s Advisory Board has hosted an annual event in conjunction with Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the granting of the vote to women in the United States. This year the board is collaborating with UNC Charlotte’s Women + Girls Research Alliance to bring awareness to the issues of body shaming.  This year’s event, called Overcoming Body Shame: How to Deal with Body Image, will be held at UNC Charlotte in the Cone Center, on August 26, 2017 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.  The event content is targeted to middle school girls, teenagers, and adults. It will include a light breakfast for all attendees with consecutive sessions — one for adults/teenagers and one for middle school girls. Both sessions will have speakers with professional training and experience working with people impacted with body image issues. The session for middle school girls will include an exercise in which they create vision storyboards they can take home with them.
