Description
the Naked Arts welcomes the contemplative sounds of Sean Gaskell!
Sean Gaskell plays the West African Kora. The 21 string harp is native to the Mande peoples of Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, and Guinea Bissau. He studied extensively under the instruction of Malamini Jobarteh and Moriba Kuyateh of Brikama, Gambia in 2008 and 2012. He has also studied with Kane Mathis, a Kora player based in Seattle who has lead numerous ensembles including “The Kora Band” and “The Sahel Band”.
Sean released his first solo album “Kora Music of West Africa” in March. He has played at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle and at the World Sacred Music Festival in Olympia, WA. He has frequented venues from Seattle to San Francisco.
