Description

XFC 19: Charlotte Showdown Friday, August 3, 2012 at The Grady Cole Center

XFCinsider: Xtreme Fighting Championships, the East Coasts largest MMA promotion will venture to North Carolina for the first time in the promotions history. Originally based in Tampa, Florida where they completed their first 7 shows, the promotion which continues to draw more and more attention from the MMA community, is burning through an East Coast tour in 2012. After three shows in Tennessee, XFC’s next stop will be in Charlotte for XFC 19: Charlotte Showdown on Friday August 3rd.

‘Charlotte Showdown’ promises be a historic night for the XFC welterweight division. With a spectacular main event between Nicolae Cury and Roger Carroll, the promotion will establish a pecking order in the division, live on AXStv.

Known primarily for his submission skills, Nicolae Cury’s last two wins came by armbar in the first round. In fact, out of six professional wins, half of those have come by armbar in the first round. The Blackzillian product made a successful XFC debut at XFC 14 Resurrection, when he submitted Elijah Harshbarger in 87 seconds to improve his record to 6-2.

“Nicolae has some of the sickest armbars I have ever seen,” confessed XFC President John Prisco. “It didn’t even take him 90 seconds to tap out Harshbarger in October. I was blown away by his performance that night and I know he wants to put on a show in Charlotte. Roger may have more experience, but Nicolae wants to show everyone on AXStv that he is for real. A win in Charlotte will set up a fight with Corey Hill, so he’s in a unique position. Before Corey got hurt earlier this year, the two were going to fight in February. I know Nicolae still wants that fight and if he comes out on top, we could have our main event for a show later this year.”

Standing in Cury’s way is North Carolina’s own Roger Carroll. With 17 pro fights and 10 wins by submission Carroll will be looking to make a statement in his XFC debut. With recent wins over Josh Eagans and Adrian Miles, both regarded as two of the South’s top welterweight prospects, Carroll could be on his way to the top of the division if he can get by Cury at XFC 19.
