An entertainment career was virtually pre-ordained for Pauly Montgomery Shore. At age 4, he sat on the lap of The King himself in the company of his father, comedian Sammy Shore, who opened for Elvis during the early ’70s. Around the same time, Pauly’s mother, Mitzi, and father opened The Comedy Store on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, giving their son the rare opportunity to hang out and be inspired by such rising talents as Robin Williams, David Letterman and the late Sam Kinison, who became Pauly’s mentor.

At 17, Pauly began writing and performing his own material, creating the persona of “The Weizel,” a character that quickly appealed to young audiences. While playing small roles in such movies as 18 AGAIN and PHANTOM OF THE MALL, Pauly honed his comedy routine to a frenetic level, gaining the attention of MTV. In 1990, the network gave him his own show, TOTALLY PAULY. Pauly rose to national attention during a strong four-year run on MTV.

The 3^rd Annual Uptown Charlotte Jazz Fest returns to the Queen City with the sounds and rhythms of some of the world’s greatest jazz performers June 22-23, 2012, at the Time Warner Cable Uptown Ampitheatre (TWCUA).  Following up a nearly sold-out 2^nd year, the festival has expanded to two nights in TWCUA to meet demand and accommodate the legions of fans that flock to the festival, which offers a unique atmosphere for the true jazz enthusiasts.  Tickets are on sale now.

The Uptown Charlotte Jazz Fest has truly become a “destination event,” attracting attendees from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.  The producers expect another increase in attendance and more out-of-town concertgoers because of this year’s exciting lineup.

The interior is dramatic and over the top. Decor aside, though, operating partner Patrick Whalen stresses the importance of the experience patrons should expect. “Why are you paying a premium to go out? It’s either for the ambiance, the food or the design … or all of those things combined in a really exciting way,” Whalen says.

Between the sprawling bar, the private, swanky lounge area and the surrounding options for dining in a large group or a cozy pair, 5Church offers remarkable variety.

“You’ve got the intimate, fine dining up on the top area, and then you’ve got the bar/communal table, which has a very New York/L.A. feel, so we could have a lot of people mingling,” Howell says. “We wanted to make sure there were multiple atmospheres, for the late-night crowd or just if you’d want a romantic setting. We were able to do that with this location’s layout — create a lot of different dining experiences so you don’t just come here every time and feel like you’ve had the same experience.”

An entire block for Food Lion Speed Street is devoted to children, encouraging families to take part in the activities. If you’re planning a trip to Charlotte for the NASCAR races, be sure to include the Food Lion Speed Street 600 Festival in your plans. Admission is free and open to all ages.

For more than 25 years, the 600 Festival Association has been commemorating the May races at Charlotte Motor Speedway with spectacular family-oriented events that personify the tremendous growth of motorsports.

Organizers are making some changes to this year’s Speed Street festival in uptown Charlotte.

The event is a precursor for the Coca-Cola 600 and includes dozens of live concerts.

Organizers said to accommodate the growing number of fans at the event, they’re moving the location of two of the stages.

The Miller Lite stage will be located in the parking lot near the corner of South Tryon and East Stonewall streets, across from the Mint Museum. The Cheerios stage, located in the Food Lion Kids’ Zone presented by General Mills, will shift south on Tryon Street to be located near Fourth and Tryon streets.

An estimated 400,000 people are expected to attend the event, which runs May 24 through 26.

Before his untimely death in 1989, Alvin Ailey asked Judith Jamison to become Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Remaining committed to furthering Alvin Ailey’s legacy, she has brought the Company to unprecedented success. In July 2011, Ms. Jamison will pass her mantle to Artistic Director Designate Robert Battle. In announcing Mr. Battle’s appointment, Ms. Jamison stated, “Combining an intimate knowledge of the Ailey company with an independent perspective, he is without question the creative force of the future.”
