2010 NRA Convention

The National Rifle Association will hold the biggest convention in the city’s history, starting Friday at The Charlotte Convention Center.

Organizers say they expect at least 70,000 visitors. Hotels are booked, restaurants will be packed, and the entire event is expected to pump $20 million into the local economy.

Love it or hate it, the NRA is going to have a very large, very positive effect on businesses here.

About 400 firearms manufacturers and collectors will tout their wares, and the speakers will likely leave NRA fans starry-eyed.

Sarah Palin has made headlines of late for her high fees for public appearances, but she will address the conference for free. Broadcaster Glenn Beck is also on the docket, along with actor Chuck Norris, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Tickets to events start at $35, and entry to the exhibits alone is $10.
