President Obama To Visit Mt. Holly Truck Plant

March 6, 2012

President Barack Obama will visit the Freightliner truck plant in Mount Holly Wednesday to talk about the economy.

In 2010, the plant was down to just 120 assembly line workers. Since last summer, hundreds of laid-off union workers have been rehired, and hundreds of new employees have been hired as well.

So it’s no surprise that Obama has chosen the plant as the background for a speech about the economy, which he will deliver after touring the truck plant, where the hundreds of new jobs have jump-started the local economy.

“What’s going on at the plant is great for our economy,” Mount Holly City Manager Danny Jackson said Tuesday.

Mount Holly is a community of about 14,000 people about 15 miles south of Charlotte. It’s one of three Freightliner plants in the Charlotte area.

First Lady Michelle Obama visited the Raleigh & Charlotte areas on last week, attending DNC fundraisers and promoting fitness with her “Let’s Move!” campaign between games at the CIAA basketball tournament.
