2023 Martin Luther King Jr Day – Events and celebrations honoring the life and legacy of MLK. Taking place in and around Charlotte, NC. Official observance on Monday, January 16, 2023. Events planned throughout the week.

Saturday, January 14th

MLK Dream Day Parade in Kannapolis

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. at A.L. Brown High School and march the length of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue ending at Atrium Health Ballpark.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream Day at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis

Enjoy free food and entertainment, including kickball games. There will also be a minority business fair and a health and wellness corridor. Gates open at 10 a.m.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. P.E.A.C.E. Basketball Showcase at Carole Hoefener Center

Participating teams include Harding, Mallard Creek, Olympic and Indian Land. The first game tips off at 10 a.m.

MLK Day Call to Service with United Way of Central Carolinas

United Way’s Call to Service Day will offer both remote and in-person volunteer activities. On Saturday, volunteers are needed to help assemble snack packs for students attending tutoring and after-school programs supported by the United Way. Preregistration is required. In Memory of the 55th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. death. The MLK Planning Committee will be hosting a march on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Time: 2:30pm

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Service in Uptown Charlotte

This brief service includes a wreath-laying ceremony at 3 p.m. at Marshall Park.

Annual MLK Holiday Breakfast 

Commemorate and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Since 1993, this annual event has engaged a diverse audience who come together to honor Dr. King’s spirit of service. His dream lives on through the goal of achieving justice, equity, and inclusion for all. Prayer, music, dancing and a spoken word performance will inspire you and honor the accomplishments of Dr. King. 8am-9am. Crown Ballroom @ Charlotte Convention Center, 501 S College St, Charlotte.

Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture and Levine Museum of the New South Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
