CHARLOTTE BALLET’S REACH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM HOSTING OPEN AUDITIONS FOR GIRLS AND BOYS AGES 7-10

Program has Provided Dance Instruction to over 1,000 Local Students Since 2009

Charlotte, NC – Charlotte Ballet’s Reach Scholarship Program, which celebrated its 10th Anniversary earlier this year, will be hosting free auditions at five Mecklenburg County recreation centers beginning the last week of July.

“Charlotte Ballet’s Reach program is an important way that the organization gives back to our community,” said Bianca Bonner, Director of Education and Community Engagement with Charlotte Ballet. “We bring the same curriculum that is offered at Charlotte Ballet Academy into our neighborhoods, free-of-charge, through a long-standing partnership with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation.”

Students who are admitted into the program receive beginning-level, quality dance training twice a week at participating centers. Below is the schedule for recreation centers hosting open auditions for the 2019/2020 Season. All auditions begin at 5 PM.

  • Monday, July 29:              Ivory Baker Recreation Center, 1920 Stroud Park Court

  • Tuesday, July 30:             Naomi Drenan Recreation Center, 750 Beal Street

  • Wednesday, July 31:      Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center, 500 Bilmark Avenue

  • Thursday, August 1:        Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center, 2921 Tuckaseegee Road

  • Friday, August 2:              Albermarle Road Recreation Center, 5027 Idlewild Road

About Reach

Reach is Charlotte Ballet’s nationally recognized outreach need-based dance scholarship program, which makes quality dance training accessible to students who demonstrate a natural talent for movement and potential to be trained in dance. Reach was launched in 2009 through a $78,000 grant from the Women’s Impact Fund. The Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department partners with Charlotte Ballet to promote the program and provides sites for the classes at six recreation centers throughout the county. Reach is funded solely through contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations.
