AXA Expanding In Charlotte; 550 New Jobs
May 10, 2017
Insurance company AXA planning Charlotte expansion, adding 550 new jobs over the next 5 years to their existing University area location.
Bringing IT, finance, legal, accounting, customer service, human resources and other new jobs to the area, the expansion represents a roughly $18 million investment.
Information from the state shows the average salary for the jobs is close to $110,000. That means the payroll will exceed $60 million. That compares to an average annual salary in Mecklenburg County at close to $63,000 per year.
Charlotte will be AXA’s largest location in the U.S., according to a statement Tuesday from Gov. Roy Cooper’s office. The Paris-based company’s U.S. headquarters will remain in New York.
AXA’s expansion is made possible in part by a state Job Development Investment Grant. Under the terms of the grant, the company is eligible to receive up to $11.8 million in total tax reimbursements over 10 years. AXA must prove that the jobs have been created and meet other performance requirements in order to receive the total award.
“AXA looks forward to growing in Charlotte and we appreciate the support from the state of North Carolina, the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County,” says Mark Pearson, chairman, president and CEO of AXA U.S., in a news release.
Pearson says the company picked Charlotte for its workers.
“We know from our experience that Charlotte is a great place to attract a talented workforce, allowing us to grow our business and better serve our customers,” he says.
AXA was based in Ballantyne before it moved to Innovation Park in the University area in 2013.
