Memorial events for the 10 year anniversary of the September 11th terrorism attacks, taking place around Charlotte, NC.

Charlotte and Mecklenburg County will host “The 9/11 National Moment of Remembrance,” an event in remembrance of the attacks at 12:30 p.m. at Freedom Park, 1900 East Blvd. For one minute beginning at 1 p.m., there will be a moment of reflection. http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/county/MediaRoom/PR/Pages/CITYANDCOUNTYTOJOIN.aspx

The Charlotte Fire Fighters’ Association hosts a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to honor those that gave all on the morning of September 11, 2001, their families and to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. 9am-3pm at Duke Energy Center: 550 South Tryon St, Charlotte, NC. www.charlottefirefightercharities.org

Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, and Cabarrus County will host a Patriots’ Day remembrance ceremony 2 p.m. at the Concord Fire Station 8, 1485 Old Charlotte Road, Concord, NC. Included will be a laying of the memorial wreath, a 21-gun salute, and unveiling of a piece of steel from the World Trade Center in New York.

Waxhaw will hold a ceremony at 12:40 p.m., at the Memorial Wall, on East North Main Street. A 10-minute portion of the program devoted to the public’s remembrance of that day. Details: www.waxhaw.com.

Monroe will have a ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Historic Union County Courthouse. N.C. State Fire Marshal and Commissioner of Insurance Wayne Goodwin will be the guest speaker.

Mecklenburg Ministries is co-sponsoring a community concert program with Myers Park Baptist Church and Carolina Voices 7 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Road. There will brief reflections of hope and healing in honor of the lives that were lost on 9/11. www.mpbconline.org

East Lincoln Republican Women will sponsor an event at the East Lincoln Community Center on Optimist Club Road in Denver. A Southern-style family picnic will be served at 1 p.m. The program will be at 2 p.m. Retired New York City police and firefighters will attend. Elizabeth Mercado will perform patriotic music.
